CBSE announces NEET 2016 results, Het Shah from Gujarat is the topper

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test — phases 1 and 2 on Tuesday. The results were expected on Wednesday.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results of both the phases of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test on Tuesday, a day ahead of the expected date.

Het Shah of Allen Career Institute in Kota has topped the examination. The second and third positions were grabbed by students of the same institute as well.

Het Shah, 18, from Gujarat, scored 685 out of 720 marks to grab the All India Rank (AIR) 1. Ekansh Goyal, 18, from Odisha and Nikhil Bajiya, 17, from Rajasthan bagged AIR 2 and 3 respectively.

Students can check their results by CBSE results website.

Steps to check the results:

1) Go to CBSE results website

2) Click on the link for ‘NEET exam results 2016’ to go to the log in page

3) Enter your roll number and date of birth

4) Click on submit

5) Results will be displayed on the screen

The first phase of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, which saw 6 lakh candidates register, was conducted on May 1 just three days after the Supreme Court made it compulsory for all students to appear for the exam for admissions to medical and dental colleges across India.

As thousands of students had not registered for the first phase, the second phase was held on July 24 and over 4 lakh students across the country appeared for the exam, out of which only around 1.5 lakh candidates were fresh applicants.

According to the top court’s verdict, students who registered for Phase I were allowed to appear for the next phase of NEET on July 24 but with a rider that they will have to give up their Phase I score.
