LSG Squad IPL 2025

After going all-out in the IPL 2025 auction to stock up on their batting, it’s a make-or-break season for the Lucknow Super Giants to see if they have chosen the right path to go down, or one that will make this season a long and painful one to contend with. LSG have gone for an extremely high-risk, high-reward game plan, one that could make for some extremely exciting high-octane cricket, but also one that IPL fans have seen fail to work out for so many teams in that past.

LSG’s game plan is to rely on domestic bowling and put their eggs in the basket of uber-attacking batting up the order to set the tone. This was made clear with their retention strategy, as they broke the bank for Nicholas Pooran, while also keeping hold of a strong domestic bowling core with Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi. LSG weren’t one of the teams who had a ton of money to spare going into the auction, but they still managed to make an absolutely massive splash, putting out a record-breaking INR 27 crore to procure the services of Rishabh Pant, and immediately forming perhaps the best 3-4 combination in the world with their two left-handed wicketkeeper-batters.

Adding to this, LSG also got their hands on a powerful finisher in the form of David Miller, who makes the switch over from GT and will provide even more power to what is an already stacked power-hitting unit. On the opening front, Mitchell Marsh will be the go-to option if he is fit, while Aiden Markram can be his backup, but LSG do look to be one opener short. They could promote Ayush Badoni to open the batting alongside Marsh, or even have all four overseas batters in their top 6, as risky as that strategy can be.

In the bowling department, Bishnoi will be the strike leg-spinner, but LSG did terrifically to get their hands on Shahbaz Ahmed, who can not only give overs of very useful left-arm orthodox, but also extend the batting to give their explosive lineup some cover. Where LSG could either flounder and fall apart, or really develop into the best team this tournament has to offer, is with the pace bowling they have to offer. While there is potential within Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav to be the best crop of young Indian bowlers in the tournament, it is still a gamble, especially with the injury history Mayank has had. LSG do have solid backup with Shamar Joseph on the bench as well, though, and it’s hard to imagine that this many quality seam bowlers won’t be able to back up this powerful LSG lineup.

It’s just about quickly figuring out what the best combination will be for LSG, who have gone heavy on the middle order, but left themselves slightly exposed at the top. Nevertheless, something to be excited about for the faithful at the Ekana Stadium.

LSG Squad FAQs

  • What was LSG’s strategy going into IPL 2025?

LSG focused heavily on building a high-powered batting lineup while relying on domestic bowlers. They made big investments in explosive batters like Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran while retaining key Indian bowlers like Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi.

  • Who were LSG’s major signings in the IPL 2025 auction?

LSG made a record-breaking ₹27 crore signing of Rishabh Pant, pairing him with Nicholas Pooran to create a lethal middle order. They also acquired David Miller for finishing duties and Mitchell Marsh to strengthen the top order.

  • What are LSG’s biggest strengths this season?

LSG boasts one of the most aggressive batting lineups in IPL 2025, with power hitters like Pant, Pooran, Miller and Marsh. They also have a promising domestic bowling attack, including young pacers Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, alongside the experienced legspinner Ravi Bishnoi.

  • What challenges could LSG face in IPL 2025?

LSG’s biggest challenge is their lack of a stable opening combination. They might have to experiment with Ayush Badoni as an opener or play all four overseas batters in the top six, which is a risky approach. Their pace attack, though talented, is also young and somewhat injury-prone.

  • How does LSG’s bowling attack compare to other teams?

LSG has a talented but relatively unproven pace attack, featuring Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan and Akash Deep. While they have the potential to be among the best, injuries and inconsistency could be concerns. Their spin attack, led by Ravi Bishnoi and Shahbaz Ahmed, adds balance.
