IPL Highest Team: In a format where boundaries flow freely and 200 is no longer a safe total, predicting a par score in T20 cricket has become increasingly difficult. The Indian Premier League continues to evolve each season, with teams pushing the limits of batting excellence and setting new benchmarks for high scores.
Going by last season's scoring trends, a total of 300 in IPL 2025 no longer seems far-fetched. Even teams that struggle to get going still manage to cross 150—a total that was once considered defendable. The batting revolution in T20 cricket has made such scores commonplace, making it clear that the game has moved well beyond its earlier benchmarks.
When T20 cricket first emerged, batting was all about reckless hitting. However, with franchise leagues flourishing worldwide, the approach has transformed into a mix of aggression and calculated shot-making. The modern era has redefined traditional batting, sidelining textbook techniques in favour of innovative stroke play. Power-hitting has taken over, with ramp shots and scoops becoming more popular than the conventional batting technique.
Advancements in bat technology and modern training methods have empowered batters to play fearless cricket. Given the rapid progression of the format, the day may not be far when a 300-run chase becomes the norm. Or is that still too optimistic?
On April 15, 2024, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set a record by scoring 287 for three against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This remarkable feat surpassed all previous team totals in the IPL.
Just a couple of weeks earlier, on March 27, 2024, SRH had already made headlines by posting a massive total of 277 for 3 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at their home ground in Hyderabad. This innings was a precursor to their record-breaking performance later in the season, reflecting the big-hitting ability of their batters.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also put their name in the record books on April 3, 2024, when they amassed 272 for 7 against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam. Another notable performance came from SRH on April 20, 2024, when they scored 266 for 7 against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This innings cemented SRH's reputation as a formidable batting side during the 2024 season.
Prior to these 2024 exploits, RCB held the record for the highest team total in the IPL. On April 23, 2013, they posted a staggering 263 for 5 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This match is particularly remembered for Chris Gayle's explosive innings, where he scored an unbeaten 175 runs, highest score by any batter in the IPL.
