GO sends LMC into a tailspin
JUST LAST year, president of Saptahik Bazar Dukandar Kalyan Samiti ?Rafique? committed self-immolation to protest against tehbazari extortion. On February 28 this year, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav announced abolition of tehbazari system and introduction of the National Policy for Street Vendors in the state. But, the LMC floated tenders despite the announcement claiming that the corporation has yet to receive the GO.

ABOUT 12 out of 20 candidates for safai karamchari?s post ran away when they were asked to clean a nullah. ?It seems hesitancy in performing cleaning work is still hurting the general and backward class candidates. They were asked to clean the New Hyderabad Nullah by Nagar Swasthya Adhikari, zonal officers and health supervisors. But they ran away,? said zonal health officer PK Sharma.

CMO gives LMC two days to clear water-logging
THE CHIEF Minister?s Office (CMO) has shot off a letter to Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) mandarins directing them to take immediate action to clear the water-logging in the city within two days and report back. Taken aback by the water-choked city with only pre-monsoon showers, the CMO directive states that the LMC must take initiative to clear water-logging in the Government Colony in front of Bhootnath Market, Indira Nagar B-block and report back. Reacting to the CMO letter, LMC officials blamed ?unplanned development? for water-logging.

PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED Ram Dulari has been running from pillar to post to claim compensation for the death of her brother Sarvan Kumar in an accident on Bakshi Ka Talab Road along with six other persons on January 20. Sarvan was the sole bread earner of his family and was the driver of the taxi hit by a speeding roadways bus (UP 42 D-1941) on Sitapur Road.

The LMC may slap a fine from Rs 1000 to Rs 30,000 on the guilty owners. MNCs to take up the broom for LMC
VERY SOON city will see MNCs jostling with local contractors to bag clean-up work from the LMC. The corporation has already dispatched letters to the MNCs from Columbia, Australia and the USA to participate in the tenders scheduled between May 18 and 28. These companies have evinced interest in segregating waste, cleaning and brooming of roads, clean the drains lesser than 65 cm in diameter, lift the silt from drain, cut grasses and bushes, dispose of animal carcasses.

LMC officials working as contractors!
KEEPING UP his battle against LMC-contractor nexus, municipal commissioner VP Singh warned his officials against floating fake tenders to claim money. In fact, the LMC boss was surprised to find that even corporation officials were floating tenders as contractors for already completed works. This was causing additional revenue loss to the LMC. He has ordered an office probe to identify such officials.

They wake up to collect water at 1 am
There ARE some areas in the city where Lucknowites stay awake or set the alarm for 1 am just to collect a bucket of water! Residents of Shakti Nagar, Indira Nagar and Brahmpuri areas near Jugauli have no option because the Jal Sansthan supplies water to localities after midnight. Similar is the case in some Old City mohallas of Moulviganj, and Rakabganj.
