CMO gives LMC two days to clear water-logging
THE CHIEF Minister?s Office (CMO) has shot off a letter to Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) mandarins directing them to take immediate action to clear the water-logging in the city within two days and report back. Taken aback by the water-choked city with only pre-monsoon showers, the CMO directive states that the LMC must take initiative to clear water-logging in the Government Colony in front of Bhootnath Market, Indira Nagar B-block and report back. Reacting to the CMO letter, LMC officials blamed ?unplanned development? for water-logging.

The LMC, has therefore, set up a control room and deputed officials from various departments for duties in shifts. The control room will operate round-the-clock.
The staff would be deputed in three shifts of of 8 hours each at the control room, said Assistant Municipal Commissioner Anil Kumar Srivastava. Citizens may complain about water-logging, road repair, street-lights, dead and stray animals at phone number 2613557. A staff of six beldars, one jallad, 1 mate, 1 linesman, two drivers, one junior engineer will be on duty at any given time.
Also, the Municipal Commissioner has written to top LMC officials to not switch off their mobiles and not go out of station without permission. The Municipal Commissioner had to issue these directives after he found most of them untraceable this Sunday.
The LMC is using 34 pumps in various city areas like Kalidas Marg, Jawahar Nagar, Bhootnath, Indira Nagar B Block, Ismailganj, Chowk, Akbari Gate, Dandiayya Daliganj overbridge.
According to Municipal Commissioner VP Singh, there are 441 nullahs in the city of which, the Engineering Department is supposed to clean 71, while the Rubbish Removal Department is to clean 59 and the rest are entrusted to the Health Department. But the Engineering Department has started work on 25 nullahs, Rubbish Removal Department on 40 and Health Department has started cleaning only 15 nullahs!
“You will find polythene, thermacol and plastic blocking the nullahs more than silt,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Santosh Kumar.
