He has painted India on his head and Sachin rules his heart! A diehard fan of Master Blaster Tendulkar, Sudhir Kumar Gautam, from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, is all of 26 and has created a record of sorts by travelling nearly 40,000 kilometres on his bicycle just to watch 14 test matches and more than 30 one-dayers played by the Indian cricket team over the last four years in India and Pakistan.

LMC to tax house owners

IN A fresh bid to crackdown on rooftop hoardings, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will slap commercial tax on such houses. This time the corporation has adopted a four-pronged approach to address the problem. (a) Identify the houses with rooftop hoardings, (b) Check whether they have a fitness certificate from the LDA. (c) If yes, then does the hoarding or tower exceed the sanctioned weight-bearing capacity? (d) Demolitions in case of anomalies.

WELL, IT?S true! If prices kept rocketing at the current pace, moms would get out of the kitchen and demand a 50 per cent hike in the kitchen budget to be able to serve a full dish of dal-chawal-roti-sabji.If there is no upward revision, then the moms would have to go on an austerity drive and trim the daily household diet by half.

It seems LMC bosses are going by the routine?no epidemcis before July, wake up after seasonal diseases have done the damage! The worst has already begun with some city localities reporting spread of epidemic, killing of one person so far in Luv Kush Nagar.

Citizens pay up as LMC delays decision

LUCKNOWITES ENDED up paying extra for parking in several areas on Saturday. Though 21 parking contracts are on hold but contractors charged Rs 5 for two wheelers and Rs 10 for cars using old coupons with printed rates of Rs 2 for bicycles, Rs 3 for two-wheelers and Rs 5 for cars.

Jal Sansthan warns of drier summers

LUCKNOWITES SEEM to be heading for a thirsty summer as the State government has not responded to Jal Sansthan warnings. With the rise in mercury, people in old city areas have started complaining about scarcity of potable water. Chowk, Thakurganj, Napier Road, Tehseenganj, Moulviganj, Birhana, Rakabganj, Mshakganj people are purchasing water from private tankers or collecting it from their taps in the mid night.

CITY?S PARSI community celebrated Janshedi Navroz at Parsi Anjuman Mirbai Marg on Tuesday. Jamshedi Navroz is a Spring festival which falls on March 21 stated to be the start of springs and also the vernal equinox of the sun. Hence the name was kept as Navroz, which literally means the New Day.

CMO asks LMC, ?where to park??

FINALLY, CITY?S parking woes catch the CM office?s attention. In a quick response to Ganj traders? complaint, the CM office has written to the acting municipal commissioner to streamline parking in Hazratganj and Aminabad. The CMO has even suggested construction of underground parking lots in these places to end the problem of parking.

LMC mulls rollback in parking fee hike

THE LUCKNOW Municipal Corporation (LMC) is thinking over a partial rollback in the proposed hike in parking charges after a protest demonstration staged by Aminabad & Hazratganj traders on Tuesday. Sources told HT Lucknow Live, the LMC had, because of the pressure, stalled the process of tenders for the 60 parking lots in the city and held back the notification for the tehbazari contracts at 53 sites in Lucknow.

Traffic glut: LMC to pull up erring schools

THE LUCKNOW Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to serve notices to major schools in the city that have not arranged for parking facility inside their premises despite possessing space. Some schools, including St Francis, Cathedral, Loreto, etc, are to be served notices by the LMC soon. The first list of ?erring schools? prepared by the LMC includes these schools as they fall in the VVIP areas of Hazratganj and Raj Bhawan and cause major traffic problems during peak hours.

No April 1 joke?Pay Rs 10, 20 to park in Ganj!

FROM APRIL 1, a visit to Hazratganj and Aminabad could be four times more taxing for owners of two-and-four-wheelers. That?s if the parking rates proposed by LMC officials were accepted by district magistrate RN Tripathi, also the administrator of the LMC. Parking rates would be different in the Aminabad and Hazratganj markets from the rest of the city. According to LMC officials, parking rates for Aminabad and Hazratganj had been kept higher to discourage congestion caused by private vehicles in these areas.

1000 dog bites a month!

OVER 1000 PEOPLE fall victim to dog-bites every month and the scene becomes scarier with 2 lakh street dogs stalking city roads.What?s the reason? Residents think the reason is carelessness on part of LMC dogcatchers. A resident of Faizabad road Joyjit says, ?We have made a number of complaints about the street dog problem in our housing society. But, there has been no action.?
