Delhi’s Sukriti Gupta tops CBSE Class 12 exams with 99.4%

Sukriti Gupta of New Delhi’s Montfort School in Ashok Vihar scored 99.4% to top the Class 12 examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the results of which were declared on Saturday.

Gupta, a student of science, scored 497 out of 500 in the board examination. Last year’s topper, M Gayatri of New Green Field School in Saket in New Delhi, scored 496 or 99.2% marks. She was a commerce student.

Gupta scored 100 marks in Physics and Chemistry and 99 in Mathematics, English and Computer Science. Gupta is preparing for her engineering exams and will appear for the JEE advanced exam on Sunday.

The second topper was science stream’s Palak Goyal of Tagore Public School in Pehowa of Haryana’s Kurukshetra district. She scored 496 or 99.2% marks.

Commerce student Somya Uppal of St Theresa Convent in Haryana’s Karnal and Ajish Shekhar of PSBB Secondary Senior JK Nagar, Chennai, who is a science student, scored 495 or 99% to jointly become the third toppers.

The highest score ever was Sarthak Agarwal’s 99.6% in 2014. The science student went on to study economics at Shri Ram College of Commerce. Agarwal scored 100 in physics, chemistry, economics and maths and 98 in English.

Among the differently-abled students, Mudita Jagota of DAV Public School in Faridabad scored 485 or 97% to top the category. Siddhartha Bistar of KV Sector 8 RK Puram came second in the category, scoring 484 or 96.8% marks. Rakshit Malik of Noida’s Amity International School Noida secured the third rank by getting 482 or 96.4% marks.

The overall pass percentage stands at 83.05% which is higher than last year’s 82%.

This year too girl students outperformed boys by a margin of around 10%. The pass percentage of girls stood at 88.58 as compared to 78.85 of boys.

In terms of regions, Thiruvananthapuram has the highest pass percentage at 97.61%, followed by Chennai at 92.63%.

Checking the results

Students can check their results on the official websites of the board - www.results.nic.in, www.cbseresults.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in. They can log in by providing the required details and the results will be displayed on the screen.

Or they can click here to go directly to the login page.

They can also obtain their results through IVRS system by calling on these numbers 011-24300699 and 011-28127030.

The board will also provide digital mark sheets for Class 12 in DigiLocker at www.digilocker.gov.in starting this year.

“The DigiLocker account credentials will be sent to students via SMS on their mobile number registered with CBSE. The results will also be available via Android mobile app-DigiResults,” an official statement said.

The second phase of telecounselling will also commence along with the announcement of the results and will continue till June 4, 2016.

The examination was conducted between March 1 and April 22. A total of 10,67,900 students, including 6,21,259 boys and 4,46,641 girls, registered for the examination from 10,121 schools.

Among all the CBSE regions, Delhi saw the highest number of student registrations, followed by Panchkula and Dehradun.

In Delhi region, 2,70,835 students registered from 1,775 schools, excluding foreign schools. Panchkula saw a registration of 1,72,709 students from 1,987 schools, while 1,25,622 students registered in Dehradun region from 1,105 schools.

In Class 12, the number of students this year saw an increase of 2.65% than last year. In 2015, 10,40,368 students had registered.
