Man alleges harassment for being a Dalit on video, hangs self from tree in Sonepat after

A 38-year-old man recorded a video of him committing suicide on Sunday after alleging that he was being harassed by three men for ‘being a Dalit’. Police said the deceased, identified as Vijay, a resident of Delhi’s Harewali village near Bawana, hanged himself from a tree in Sonepat’s Tewari village. Investigators have seized the video clip from Vijay’s phone and registered an FIR on Tuesday on his brother’s statement.

In the video, allegedly uploaded on Youtube, Vijay accused three men from his village — Vijay, Sachin and Chhote — for harassing him for money and passing vulgar comments at him for being a Dalit.
