Jat stir: Rohtak braces for worst as emergency helplines fail
The Jat agitation for OBC status in Haryana entered the eighth day on Sunday, even as the death toll rose to nine. Curfew was declared in several parts of the state, but incidents of violence continued to occur unabated. Fears of the locals were escalated by the fact that even emergency helplines have gone dead.

Jat agitation brings Rohtak to a standstill
Soon after the news reached that chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar was planning to seek the Centre’s help besides deploying five Rapid Action Force units to disperse Jat protesters from various spots across Rohtak and neighbouring areas, the situation took a communal turn as Jat leaders started issuing inflammatory statements against Punjabi community, to which Khattar belongs.

Protesters block highway in Rohtak
While the rail blockade at Mayyar village of Hisar district was called off on Sunday, thousands of Jats blocked the Delhi-Rohtak highway at Sampla, around 45 km from the national capital, demanding reservation under the other backward class (OBC) category. One of the protesting leaders, Pappu Dalal, said there are plans to block the Bahadurgarh-Beri road and Jhajjhar-Beri road as well.
