SC commission writes to Parrikar, seeks revival of Chamar Regiment in Indian Army

“Mere 2 bete kab ki BA kar chuke hain... par dono khali baithe hain...(two of my sons are graduates but both are unemployed and sitting at home),” said Santro Devi, when she was asked why is she participating in the Jat agitation in Rohtak’s Jassia village. “Who will give me ‘bahus’ (daughter-in-laws) if they keep sitting like that?” she questioned.

Songs calling out Jats for agitation in Haryana go viral

In Rohtak’s Jasaiya village, a group of youths sit by the village pond, playing a song one of them just received on WhatsApp. The song urges them to come out on Sunday, January 29, “for it is now-or-never fight for their rights.” It says the government has “backstabbed the Jat community multiple times”, and it was not wise to “trust” them again.

Raped, murdered teen’s family seek permission from President for self-immolation

The family of a 17-year-old girl in Bhanderi village of Sonepat district have written to President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking permission for self-immolation as the district police have failed to recover her body even one-and-a-half months after she went missing, and have failed to arrest the man accused for her ‘rape and murder’.

CM Khattar wants to make Haryana open-defecation free but his native villages lag behind

Even though Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced that his government will make the state open defecation free by 2017, on grounds, his own villages struggle to better their image when it comes to access to a toilet. Villagers of deceased BSF soldier block NH-10, question compensation policy

Slain BSF head constable Rai Singh Indora, who died of Pakistan’s mortal shelling in Rajouri sector of Jammu was cremated with state honours at his native village in Kheri Sampla of Rohtak district on Tuesday morning. At his cremation, Haryana’s transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar announced Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia for the family besides a government job for kin.
