Covid-19: 97 died while travelling on Shramik trains, says Centre

The disclosure was made on Friday as a response to a question by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien in the Rajya Sabha. At the start of the monsoon session, a separate government department – the labour ministry – said it did not have data on how many migrant workers had died when the country locked down to stem the spread of Covid-19.

Railways to levy user fee as part of train fares soon

The user fee to be levied by the national transporter for the first time is in line with the user development fee (UDF) paid by air passengers. UDF is charged at various airports and the rate varies from city to city. Railways plans to levy the user fee across nearly 700-1000 railway stations.

Tata emerges as lowest bidder for tender to construct new Parliament complex

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited, which was the other bidder, quoted ₹865 crore for the project, according to the bid documents. According to the Central Public Works Department’s (CPWD) tender, the estimated cost of construction for the new building is ₹889 crore.

Parliament monsoon session: No data available on migrant deaths during lockdown, says Centre

On May 30, Hindustan Times had reported there have been almost 80 deaths on board the Shramik Special trains (for stranded migrant workers) between May 9 and May 27, according to data from the Railway Protection Force.

Railways seal new roles for top officers of restructured railway board

In December 2019, the Union Cabinet in a major move to reform the 150-year-old railway board of the Indian Railways, approved to restructure the apex body of the Indian Railways by trimming its strength to half, and unifying its eight railways services into a central service called the Indian Railway Management Service.

The Railway Board is the apex body of the Indian Railways which reports to the Parliament via the ministry of railways. It will now consist of four members and chairperson.(HT PHOTO.)

Dharmendra Pradhan writes to railway minister, seeks Shramik trains to ferry migrant workers from Odisha

The Centre had begun operation of Shramik Special trains’ from May 1 for transportation of stranded migrant labourers during the lockdown period. Railways has said more than 63 lakh migrants were ferried in over 4,600 Shramik Special trains and the last Shramik train ran on July 9.

Govt invites tender for 741 km long Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed rail corridor

The project implementing agency National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) has been entrusted by the railways to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for seven new high-speed rail corridors.

The national transporter has also begun feasibility studies on seven other potential high-speed corridors to gauge their financial viability and estimated traffic they will attract. Railways to reassess timeline on Bullet Train project, timeframe to emerge after few months

Hindustan Times on Friday had reported that the work on land acquisition and tendering for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor may face delays due to Covid-19 and the Bullet Train may fail to meet its 2023 deadline.

The project connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad has a deadline of December 2023. The Railways had said last month that the high-speed rail corridor is expected to be completed on time despite the Covid-19 outbreak.(BLOOMBERG.)

Railways to run 80 special trains from Sept 12, will add more where occupancy is high

The reservation for the special trains will begin from September 10, the ministry said. The government will also deploy ‘clone trains’ on routes where the occupancy is more depending on the waitlist for the trains.

The Railways have currently suspended all regular passenger trains indefinitely. Regular trains have remained suspended since March 22. Earlier in June the ministry had said passenger trains, including express and suburban services that were earlier suspended till June 30, will not operate till August 12.(HT PHOTO.)

Private trains to start trips in 2023-24 fiscal

Indian Railways plans to introduce private trains on its network in phases, with the first dozen due to start running in the 2023-24 financial year and all 151 by 2027, officials aware of the plan said on condition of anonymity.

According to the railway ministry’s projections, the transporter will select the companies that will run the private trains by April 2021; the first 12 are expected to start plying by 2023-24, followed by 45 more in FY 2024-25, the next 50 in FY 2025-26 and 44 by 2026-27.(AP file photo)

Unlock 4: Centre to issue guidelines for Metro services today

Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, strategic Atal Rohtang Tunnel ready for inauguration

On completion, it is set to become the world’s longest road tunnel at an altitude above 3,000 metres. The tunnel is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September.
