Railways cite poor progress by contractors, delays, on DFC after concerns raised by PMO

According to officials aware of the development, railways has identified delays in both the Eastern and Western dedicated freight corridors and revised the completion target to 2022.

A review of the DFC is scheduled to be held on August 32 with the contractors. Railways will also hold a review with state government officials of UP, Bihar, Gujarat and Maharashtra on September 1.(HT PHOTO.)

Delivery of modified Boeing 777 aircraft, part of Air India One for PM Modi delayed

The government has planned to procure two such specially modified Boeing-777 aircraft, capable of countering missile threats with its own missile defence system, called the Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) and Self-Protection Suites (SPS).

Deadline for Air India bids now extended to October 30 due to Covid-19 crisis

In June, the Centre further extended the deadline for submitting bids for the divestment to August 31, the third time since the process began in January.

In Unlock-4, metro services likely to resume; schools to remain shut: Officials

On metro services, officials said that modifications are still being worked out in consultation with ministry of housing and urban affairs, local governments, metro rail corporations and security agencies.

Hyderabad company leads race for Zojila Tunnel project

The government’s nodal agency for the strategic project, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, had issued a tender in June and opened the bids on July 24.

The project which will be implemented in two sections involves the construction of a connecting road from Z-Morh Tunnel to Zojila Tunnel and a 14.150 km long bi-directional tunnel across Zojila Pass on the Sonamarg-Kargil section of NH-01. (NHIDCL.)

Centre moves to expedite pending work on Zojila Tunnel in J-K, selects firm

The Zojila Tunnel for connecting Srinagar with Leh will be Asia’s longest 14.2 km long two-lane tunnel road and the strategically important tunnel is aimed to drastically reduce travel time from three and a half hours to just 15 minutes.

The crash occurred around 7.40pm, when it was raining, and the incident bore striking similarity to the 2010 Mangalore airport crash when a plane, also an Air India Express Boeing 737, overshot a tabletop runway and crashed nose-first into the ground – the last time there were as many or more people killed in a plane crash.

Govt orders probe into Air India crash, first team leaves for Kozhikode at 2 am

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it was raining heavily when pilots of the Boeing 737 plane from Dubai tried to land. The regulator said after landing at Runway 10, the plane continued running till the end of the runway and fell into the valley and broke into two portions.

Kisan Rail ferrying perishables flagged off from Maharashtra for Bihar

It is expected to reduce transportation costs by Rs 1,000 per tonne compared to roadways and also reduce travel time by around 15 hours, a railway ministry official said. The train will operate from Deolali to Danapur.
