No proper mechanism for monitoring sexual harassment at workplace, religious places must come under compulsion too: NCW

NCW also stated there is a vital need to bring religious places under compulsion of the Internal Complaint Committees pointing to the case of rape filed by a nun in Kerala against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

Government approves to set up 1,023 fast track courts under Nirbhaya Fund

The proposal was made by the department of justice under the ministry of law to the empowered committee of officers under Nirbhaya Fund, under the chairmanship of secretary, women and child development ministry.

Over 43,000 missing kids rescued from railway stations in 5 years

RPF data shows that the number of children rescued has been growing every year since the railway ministry, the women and child development (WCD) and NCPCR issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) in 2015 that included a protocol for rescue, and for better care and protection of children in contact with the railways.

Centre may reimburse private firms for increased maternity leave

In a bid to help women on maternity leave retain their jobs, the government may dip into labour welfare cess collected by states to reimburse employers providing maternity benefits to female staff, officials familiar with the matter said.

Govt to miss highway target but overtake 2017-18 mark

This year, Nitin Gadkari set a target of constructing 16,420km of highways; last year, the ministry built 9,829 km of highways. Last year’s target of construction was around 15,000km of highways at a rate of 41km/day while they could achieve only 27km/day.

Law ministry lifts time limit for child abuse victims to file case

Under section 468 of the code of criminal procedure (CrPC), any offence, including child abuse, which can lead to a prison term of three years has to be reported within three years of the incident.
