Bengaluru Airport introduces special facilities for persons with disabilities

The programme is designed to discreetly help passengers with hidden disabilities to navigate public places. Hidden disabilities do not have physical signs and may not be obvious. For example, a person with anxiety, diabetes or other such conditions is considered a person with a hidden disability.

 In 1992, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that December 3 would be annually observed as the International Day of Disabled Persons. The day is celebrated to increase awareness on the rights and well- being of people with disabilities.

Airlines can no longer deny boarding to any person with disability

The rules come weeks after a specially abled child was not allowed to board an IndiGo flight, and days after aviation watchdog imposed a ₹5 lakh fine for the airline’s deficient handling of the passenger.

The move, a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official said, is to ensure that people with special needs are not misconstrued by airlines as behaving in an “unruly” manner (REPRESENTATIONAL)
