Pune district witnesses normal rainfall this season

The southwest monsoon has ended in Maharashtra and Pune district with normal rainfall and deficits ranging from 3% to 6%, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon season had a delayed and weak start but improved in July and September. The Konkan and Goa subdivisions received excess rainfall, while other subdivisions experienced deficits. The overall rainfall in September was 32% higher than normal, benefiting agriculture and water storage in reservoirs. Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days. The monsoon withdrawal is set to begin on October 4.

Despite flood fury, Punjab’s monsoon deficit stands at 11%

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), till September 16, the state has received 11% less rainfall when compared to the Long Period Average (LPA) during the monsoon season this year. The data shows that the state has received 368 mm of rainfall against the LPA of 413.3 mm this year.

Rainfall activities to be subdued in Pune till Sept 13

Pune and other areas in the state of Maharashtra will experience reduced rainfall in the coming days due to unfavorable weather conditions, according to the India Meteorological Department. Pune currently has a 12% rainfall deficit, but experienced a short-term revival of active monsoon conditions that helped cover a 5% rainfall deficit in the last 48 hours. However, the absence of strong rainfall is creating a deficit between actual and normal rainfall. The reduction in rainfall activities is expected to continue until September 13.

Power demand beats June high, sets new record

Electricity demand in Uttar Pradesh reached a new high of 27,622 MW on Friday night, according to the UP Power Corporation. Despite the historic demand, there was no deficit and the UPPCL successfully met all demand without resorting to load shedding. Prevailing humid conditions are believed to have increased power demand.

Rain deficit in Pune comes down to 14%, from 28%, in four days

Recent rainfall in Pune district has reduced the overall deficit to 14%, with the district experiencing 'normal' rainfall for the first time this monsoon season. The rainfall activity has improved significantly in Maharashtra, with the entire state experiencing normal rainfall with a 2% deficit. The fear of less rainfall due to El Nino impact has been washed away. Pune is expected to continue experiencing good rainfall for the next three days, followed by a reduction in rainfall activity. An orange alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in ghat areas on July 23.
