The state did not release the names of the toppers as per a policy decision taken by the government to prevent putting pressure on students. State education minister KA Sengottaiyan had reasoned in a high-level meeting on Wednesday that naming the toppers would put additional pressure on students who score a shade less than the toppers.
Upgrading school curriculum to help students take on national-level competitive examinations was also recommended at the meeting. Students across the state welcomed the government’s decision to refrain from naming the toppers immediately.
