Second rank in ICSE Class 10 result: A pleasant surprise, says Jalandhar’s Jasmine
Second rank in ICSE Class 10 exams: 16-year-old scores 99.2%, daughter of a DSP says she doesn’t believe in long study hours.
Two girls from here have excelled in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination, the result of which was declared by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination on Monday.

Jasmine Kaur Chahal, 16, a student of St Joseph’s Convent School here has secured the second all-India rank in Class 10 with 99.2% marks. Abheya Arora, 16, a student of St Joseph’s Convent School, shared all-India third position with some other students by securing 99% (590 out of 600 marks).
Jasmine’s father is a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in Punjab Police and her mother is a lecturer at a government school in Jalandhar. Talking about her study strategy, she said, “She does not believe in long hours of study. I like to watch TV and spending time with family. But during exam days time, I spend 6 to 7 hours on study daily.”
A book lover, Jasmine said that she took special tuition classes in mathematics as she was feeling a little weak in the subject.
“I am still focusing on my higher education to secure better grades in the non-medical stream. I have no other plan for my future,” she said when asked about her future plans.
“My mother is my role model. She always inspires me to do the best. She is really supportive and is also my best friend,” said jubilant Jasmine.
Her proud father, DSP (vigilance) Karamvir Singh, said it was a proud and unforgettable moment for the family. “I am answering phone calls and repeated her marks to everyone. She is an affectionate child and very focused on her studies. She is a favourite of all teachers and relatives,” Karamvir said.
Her mother, Gurpreet Chahal, said that she is very committed to her studies and has topped in all her examinations in the school as well.
Palwinder Kaur, a favourite teacher of Jasmine at her school, said that she has brought laurels to the school and all are proud of her.
Want to be a CA: Abheya Arora
Abheya Arora’s father, Naveen Arora, is working in a private company and her mother, Devika Arora, is a housewife. Naveen Arora said that he is really happy to see her results. “My daughter’s hard work has paid off. She studied really hard and used to spend 4 to 5 hours daily on study,” he said.
Abheya said that her strategy was very simple. I studied constantly for around four hours and also gave time to extracurricular activities to remain physically and mentally fit.
She said that she has taken admission in commerce and wants to be a chartered accountant (CA). “My parents are my true inspiration. They always motivate me and give me strength and inspiration to face all hurdles in life,” she said.
