MP: Farmer’s disabled daughter clears PSC

Rajini Verma, a farmer’s daughter with disability from MP’s Betul district, has cleared interview of the 2012 Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (PSC) examination with flying colours and will be posted as a deputy collector.

The 36-year-old girl from Sohagpur village secured 2nd rank among physically challenged candidates. Rajini is a mathematics teacher in the government middle school in Sohagpur. Polio has partially paralysed her left leg.

“It was very tough for me because I couldn’t walk properly. I wanted to create a different identity for myself. I was good in studies and have done M.Sc in mathematics,” Rajini told HT.

“In 2012, when interview was cancelled, I did not lose hope. I kept trying because I had faith that sooner or later I will clear this examination,” said the girl, whose father Devilal Verma is a farmer.

Rajini first time attempted PSC exam in 2012 and qualified preliminary and mains. But the interview was cancelled due to leak of question papers.

However, she did not lose hope and tried for the 2013 exams and but did not clear the interview round. She also appeared in the 2015 exam and cleared preliminary round. Result of the mains is awaited.

Meanwhile, Rajini came to know that the state public service commission announced dates of interview for the 2012 batch following a Madhya Pradesh high Court ruling. She appeared for the interview on July 14, whose results were announced on Friday.

She said: “I will first do something for physically challenged people because I know what they go through.” Rajini also wants to work for upliftment of poor people for “our country’s progress”.
