Mixed reaction from students as 49K aspirants take NEET-2 in Rajasthan

Nearly 49,000 aspirants on Sunday appeared for the second phase of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-2) at 70 centres across three cities of Rajasthan amid tight security, an official said.

NEET is for those who seek admission into undergraduate dental and medical courses of in medical colleges across the country. The first phase was held on May 1 and over 6.50 lakh aspirants took the exam across the country.

On directive of the Supreme Court, NEET Examination is being held in two phases. The results of NEET-1 and NEET-2 will be declared on August 17.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) coordinator (Kota) Pradeep Singh Gaur said a total of 49,940 aspirants were supposed to take NEET-2 at centres in Kota, Jaipur and Ajmer but over 900 aspirants skipped the examination.

In Kota, 11,040 aspirants were supposed to take the examination at 20 centres but 210 skipped it. Out of 33,300 aspirants at 38 centres in Jaipur, 496 did not take the examination. Similarly, 5,600 aspirants were to take the exam at 12 centres in Ajmer but 205 gave it a miss.

“I found NEET-2 easier than the previous exam which was held in May but there were several questions which were repeated from NEET-1. I found the chemistry questions difficult than physics and biology,” said Kritika Singh, a student.

Another aspirant Ashutosh Ranjan felt the paper was more difficult than NEET-1 because the physics and chemistry sections were quite tough.

Akanksha Dixit, who appeared in the exam, said: “I found the physics part quite difficult but overall NEET-2 was easier than NEET-1. I don’t think that there was any error in the question paper.”

People from across Rajasthan took the exam. “I have come all the way from Barmer. I am hopeful that my daughter will do well in the exam,” said Rekharam Jakhar, whose daughter Heena appeared in the exam in Jaipur.

Briefing about security arrangements, CBSE coordinator Gaur said mobile jammers, 40 CBSE observers and 20 CBSE officials were deployed at the examination centres in the state.

He said aspirants were allowed only to carry their admit card, 1 postcard size photo and 1 passport size photo.

Satish Kumar Gupta, a faculty with Allen Institute, said: “In today’s exam, the chemistry part was quite difficult and four questions came out of the NCERT syllabus. There were some questions which were directly from JEE-Main.”

Majority aspirants of the NEET-2 were those who appeared in NEET-1. They again took the exam to improve their score.
