Meet Priya Raj, Jharkhand Class 10 topper, who aspires to become an engineer

Priya Raj, student of Indra Gandhi Balika High School (IGBHS), Hazaribag, topped in Jharkhand matriculation or Class 10 exams with 99.2% marks in aggregate, which is the highest since creation of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) in 2003, a JAC official said.

The Council declared the results of Class 10 on Thursday and 70.77% students passed in the examinations.

Priya obtained 496 marks out of 500, including 100 in English, 100 in Mathematics, 99 in Science, 100 in Music and 97 in Social Studies.

Resident of Ranchi, Priya dreams to crack IIT and become an engineer. “My dream is to become an engineer. Before that I have to complete my Plus-2 from a good school in Jharkhand. I am trying to get admission in Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bokaro,” she said.

Priya had taken admission in IGBHS in 2015 in Class 6 through a government conducted examinations. “Like Netarhat, this is one of the prestigious government residential school in Jharkhand,” she said.

Daughter of hardware shop owner, Basant Tiwary, Priya was confident of making big in the examination. “I was hopeful of such marks, as I had worked hard for it,” she said.

Priya doesn’t believe studying in a time frame. “It won’t make any difference, if you study for 10-12 hours a day. The important thing is how much concentration you give to your studies, which actually I did,” she said.

After school hours, Priya used to get merely three to four hours in a day for self study. “Whatever success I got today is only because of my hard labour, teachers’ guidance and blessing of my parents,” she said.

Besides study, Priya loves dancing, singing and participating in debate.
