ISC result 2017: Lucknow’s Yukta Meena shares third rank in the country

Lucknow’s Yukta Meena has always followed the mantra of staying away from peer pressure to bring the best out of her.

With a 100 in physics, chemistry and computer science and 96 in English and mathematics, Meena of St Agnes’ Loreto Day School scored 99% in the ISC or Class 12 board examination to share the third place in the country with 4 other students.

The results of were declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Monday.

“I kept reminding myself that I have to stay away from peer pressure. This is what made me perform well,” the 18-year-old said.

“We live in a joint family with 10 members in the house including my parents, grandparents and, granduncle and aunt. I am the youngest in the family among the cousins and thus the joy is manifold at my achievement,” she said.

Daughter of a retired official of the Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO), Meena’s brother is a graduate of the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology in Allahabad.

In addition to devoting time for studies, Meena likes to spend her leisure hours by sketching and baking.

Her teachers said Meena has always been a good student inside the classroom as well as outside of it.

“Yukta Meena has done us really proud. She has always been a very sincere and diligent student and a good leader. She was a member of the student council and took an active part in the co-curricular activities as well,” Debra Bunny, principal of St Agnes Loreto Day School, said.

“A respectful student who has always carried herself with grace and dignified composure, she has also never hesitated from voicing her opinion,” she said.

“Yukta has been very consistent in her efforts throughout the year. Extremely meticulous in her approach and presentation of her work has been neat and thorough,” her chemistry teacher Ishani Roy Chowdhry added.

Meena shared her rank with Vedanshi Gupta of City Montessori School in Lucknow’s Rajendra Nagar, Anant Kothari and Sougata Chowdhury from St Xavier’s Collegiate School in Kolkata and Deepthi S of Dehradun’s Convent of Jesus and Mary High School.

Ananya Maity of The Heritage School, Kolkata was the topper of the ISC exam with 99.50% marks.

Nearly 72,096 candidates appeared for the ISC exams this year. The pass percentage of candidates who appeared in the ISC exam was 96.47%. Last year, 96.46% candidates passed the ISC.

Girls did better than boys in the ISC exams with a pass percentage of 97.73 as compared to the 95.39% boys who cleared the exam.
