ISC Class 12 result 2017: Second topper Ayushi Srivastava had to work hard on maths

May 29, 2017 07:30 PM IST

Second topper scored 99.25% in the ISC (Class 12) 2017 examination, the results of which were declared on Monday

Though Ayushi Srivastava belongs to a family of engineers, she opted for commerce in ISC or Class 12 under the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). And she has done justice to her choice of stream, though she had to work hard on mathematics to make it her ‘strong’ subject.

A student of City Montessori School in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar, Srivastava scored 99.25% in the Indian School Certificate examination on Monday to bag the second rank in the country in a tie with three others.

She secured 100 in mathematics and physical education, 99 in commerce and 98 in English and economics.

“My father is a chief engineer in UP Power Corporation Limited and my brother did his engineering from IIT Delhi. Since I did not want to be an engineer, I chose commerce and I am happy that I was supported by the family in the decision,” Srivastava said.

With cheers all around and congratulatory messages pouring in, Srivastava regrets missing the country’s first place by just one mark. Ananya Maity of The Heritage School, Kolkata emerged as the topper with 99.50% marks.

“Initially I wasn’t very good in mathematics. But then I seriously got down to making it my strong subject. Right from the time I stepped into Class 12, I worked really hard on mathematics and that’s how I did away with the silly mistakes that I earlier made on the subject,” she said.

Fond of watching American television shows and reading novels, Srivastava’s inspiration has been her elder brother.

“My brother also topped in the Gomti Nagar branch of CMS in 2013 by scoring 98%. I too had to follow in his footsteps and make my parents proud,” she said.

She now wants to pursue a degree in economics or BCom honours from one of the top colleges under the University of Delhi.

She shared the second rank with three others - Devesh Lakhotia of Kolkata’s St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Rishika Dhariwal of Mumbai’s Jamnabai Narsee School, and Keerthana Srikanth of Scotish High International School in Gurgaon.

Girls did better than boys in the ISC exams with a pass percentage of 97.73 as compared to the 95.39% boys who cleared the exam.

Nearly 72,096 candidates appeared for the ISC exams this year. The pass percentage of candidates who appeared in the ISC exam was 96.47%. Last year, 96.46% candidates passed the ISC.
