Delhi Government school students post best- ever results in CBSE, 94%sail through

According to the data provided by the Delhi government, the number of schools securing 100% pass percentage has risen to 203 this year from last year’s 168 schools. Similarly, 732 schools have secured more than 90% results, higher than last year when 638 schools achieved the same.

The Delhi government-run schools improved their performance, making it the best ever, by taking the pass percentage in Class XII CBSE exams from 90% last year to 94.24% this year.

In the results, announced Thursday, Delhi government schools also performed better than private schools in the city for the fourth consecutive year, with a success 3.5 percentage points higher than the latter.

Of the 1, 29, 917 government school students appeared in the CBSE class 12 exams, 1, 22, 428 passed. The number of students who appeared in the exams was also higher than last year’s number of 1, 12, 826.

Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia also took to the Twitter saying, “Congratulations students, teachers, parents and Team Education of Delhi government for beating your own record of last year’s class 12 CBSE exams. Proud to announce that this year, 94.24% students of Delhi Govt. Schools passed the exam, an increase of 3.6 percentage points over last year.”

Officials at the Directorate of Education (DoE) said that the government schools have put “extra efforts” to bring this result. “We have worked very hard. We took extra classes for students who were facing difficulties. We also held second pre-board exams for those who could not perform well in the first one. It’s a collective effort of students, teachers and parents,” said a senior DoE official.

Girls recorded better results than boys, with their pass percentage being 4.8 percentage points higher. The pass percentage of female students studying in the Delhi government school was 96.3%, which is higher than the last year’s 94.1%. Similarly, an improvement is recorded in the pass percentage of male students -- 91.48% this year as compared to 85.98% last year.

At the time of filing this report, the Delhi government was yet to announce the toppers of its schools.

AK Jha, principal of Sarvodya Vidyalaya in Rohini Sector-8, said that the pass percentage of their school was 99%, a percentage point higher than last year.

“It is the first time that the topper of Humanities in our school has scored 94% marks. We prepared throughout the year (for the examinations). We have even sent teachers to the homes of students when they would skip classes,” he said.

A head of school (HoS) of a senior secondary government school in Jahagirpuri said that their pass percentage has increased by two percentage points this year. “Although we did not have teachers for many subjects throughout the year, we managed to hire guest faculty using our school management committee (SMC) funds and completed the syllabus on time,” said the HoS, who requested anonymity.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi has been focusing on the school education ever since they have come in power in 2015. The government has started several initiatives to improve learning levels among students. “Average Quality Index this year is 306.53 which has increased from the last year’s 291.26, “ the Delhi government said in a statement.
