BPSC to use jammers to curb cheating in exams

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will install mobile jammers near examination centres in an effort to check malpractices during the preliminary test of the 29th judicial service examination, officials said on Wednesday.

The BPSC, which conducts exams for recruitment of state government employees in different cadres, including medical, engineering and general education, has floated a tender to engage a Centre-approved firm to install the jammers at its examination centres.

“The jammer will block mobile signals, wi-fi and Bluetooth operation on electronic devices. Once the agency is finalised, the BPSC will approach the Centre for clearance to install jammers,” an official said.

The judicial service examination for recruitment of judicial officers will be held on August 13 at 25 centres across the state. Around 15,000 examinees are expected to write the preliminary test to fill up 206 vacancies.

“Once this experiment succeeds, we will replicate it in other examinations also,” BPSC secretary Prabhat Kumar Sinha said.

Scores of aspirants were rusticated from medical, engineering and university teachers’ examination last year after they were found using Bluetooth devices.
