Board exams 2015: Baffled by tough questions? 5 rules to crack remaining papers

Are you disappointed with your performance in examination held on Wednesday? Have many of you not done well in or Business studies too? Well, even if that is the case, this is not the time to brood over your past performances. It is important to maintain your calm and stay focused at this stage. “Try to keep your thoughts away from what has already happened as you can’t undo it. Utilise your time and energy to prepare for the upcoming papers,” says Geetanjali Kumar, a Delhi-based psychologist and counsellor. It is also important that your parents too avoid discussions about previous papers as it may cause you to panic.

Here are some tips for you to do well in the remaining papers.

Study regularly

Study regularly and don’t let your momentum go just because you couldn’t do well in the previous papers. “Please don’t allow previous poor performances hurt your feelings and de-motivate you. It is not the end. The show must go on,” says Saroj Sharma, school counsellor of Hillwoods Academy in Preet Vihar, New Delhi.

Follow NCERT textbooks

All the question papers are prepared using NCERT books as the base. So, be thorough with your textbooks. Lay emphasis on making your concepts clear rather than simply mugging up the answers. Remember, only a small portion of the paper is of high difficulty level. So prepare for the relatively easy portion of the syllabus first, as it covers about 80% of the question paper. If your concept is clear, you can attempt any question related to the topic.

Attempt all questions

You should try not to leave out any question completely. Even if you know a part of the answer put it down in the paper. This might help you score some extra marks. “For example, in biology, draw the diagrams even if you don’t know the answer,” says Diksha Sachdeva, a Delhi-based clinical psychologist.

Prepare for application-based questions

You must have seen a trend of application-based questions in almost all papers, this year. Keep this in mind and review your strategy for the upcoming exams to avoid last-minute hassle and stress. “Take help of a senior or a teacher to understand the concepts and ask them to give you some application based questions on each topic,” says Kumar.

Don’t panic

Last but not the least, read all the questions carefully and don’t panic in case you have not prepared for two out of the six questions that have come in the examination. “Panic will distract you while attempting four questions that you know. Attempt four good questions rather than thinking about the other two,” says Sachdeva.
