Bihar board ISc 2016 results out: Check them here

Students from downtown Bihar secured top positions in the intermediate science (ISc) stream, the results of which were declared by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Tuesday. Principal secretary, education, DS Gangwar released the results.

Lok Chandra from BN Inter College in Supaul district, Anshuman Maskara from SS 108 MRJDI College in Begusarai and Saurab Shresth from VR College in Vaishali district bagged 426 marks each to become the state toppers of the examination. Ankit Raj from RP College in Patna and Rahul Kumar from VR College, Vaishali, bagged the second and third positions, respectively, in the state.

In all, 23 students figure in the top-10 rank list of intermediate science stream. Of them, six are girls. Of the eight candidates figuring in the top-five list, one is a girl.

Meanwhile, steep decline was noted this year in pass percentage of students and percentage of students securing first division than last year.

This year, the pass percentage in the examination was 67.06% against last year’s 89.32%. Moreover, 21.77% students secured first division in comparison to last year’s 49.17%.

Talking about the decline, BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said the number of candidates appearing in the examination also saw a decline this year.

“Altogether, 5.5 lakh science examinees appeared this year, while last year, it was 6.24 lakh. It is the first time this happened,” he said. He added that the pass percentage, despite being low from last year, was encouraging.

“This year, we had implemented strict measures to check use of unfair means by students in the examination. Still, the pass percentage of our students is 67.06%, which is extremely good and shows the merit of our students,” he said.

Board secretary Hariharnath Jha said several students missed the first paper of the examination despite being registered. “They might have missed the examination due to the strict measures. However, the results should show every student that it is possible to get good marks with hard work,” he added.

This is the first time we have declared the result so early. The result of intermediate commerce stream would be released by May 15, while that of arts and vocation would be released by May 18.

District-wise performance

The districts Patna, Muzaffarpur and West Champaran produced better results in intermediate science this year.

The pass percentage of students from Patna was highest at 86.53%, while students from Muzaffarpur and West Champaran secured pass percentages of 85.85% and 85.44%, to bag the second and third positions, respectively.

Girls of Muzaffarpur trumped over their counterparts in other districts with a pass percentage of 89.5%. Girls of Patna were second with a pass percentage of 85.8%, while those from West Champaran bagged the third spot with pass percentage of 84.72%.

The boys of Patna secured pass percentage of 86.79% to secure top spot among boys from other districts. In second and third place were boys from West Champaran and Muzaffarpur who secured pass percentage 85.57% and 84.81%, respectively.

With an overall pass percentage of 48.66%, Buxar was the least performing district of the state.

Government and non-government school candidates

Candidates who appeared in intermediate science examination from government institutions secured better pass percentages in some subjects than their counterparts in non-government institutions.

This was reflected in a district-wise performance list of said students in five subjects released by BSEB.

In Physics, Chemistry, Biology and mathematics, government institution candidates performed slightly better, while in English, the non-government institution candidates gained an upper hand.

The respective pass percentages of government and non-government candidates was 76.41% and 75.75% in Physics, 82% and 81% in Chemistry, 68.37% and 67.58% in biology, 87.36% and 85.96% in mathematics and 91.47% and 91.63% in English.

Absent/Expelled/Failed/Pending

Of the 5,50569 candidates that appeared in the intermediate science examination, 1,76,089, or 31.98%, were declared unsuccessful by the board. These included 1,17,872 boys and 58,217 girls.

In the examination, around 9,802 candidates were marked absent. The number of expulsions was 1,588.

The result of 2,762 candidates was marked ‘pending’ by the board. The board officials said their results would be declared within 15 days.
