Banking and finance sector top summer recruiters at IIMK
After attracting companies from diverse sectors at summer placements, IIM Kozhikode expects an increased number of pre-placement offers being made to students this year.
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) completed the summer placements of their 19th batch of Post Graduate Programme with maximum number of offers being rolled out by companies in banking and finance sector. The institute got all its 349 students in 6.5 days. Last year, IIMK placed a batch of 365 students in 10 days.
“This year we saw an increase in the number of marquee recruiters on our campus and our prominent recruiters gave more offers in diverse roles compared to last year,” says Prof Kulbhushan Balooni, Director (In-Charge) IIMK
The average stipend increased by 32% to Rs 1.06 lakh while the highest stipend was Rs 3 lakh compared to Rs 1.9 lakhs the year before.
Boston Consulting Group, a first time recruiter on campus, offered consulting roles to five students. Other new recruiters included Accenture Strategy, EY, Nestle, Shell, Perfetti Van Melle, DE Shaw, Homelane, Xerox, Boehringer Ingelheim, OYO Rooms and Sony among other companies. Top recruiters include companies like Accenture Strategy, Deutsche Bank, EY, HUL, JP Morgan, Philips and Vodafone. Other companies that participated in the summer placements this year at IIMK includes like HUL, ITC, Philips, Marico, L’Oreal, Godrej, Shell, Kelloggs, Asian Paints, Vodafone, Pidilite, HCCB, Raymond, Idea.
Most students were recruited in the sales and marketing domain this year. Apart from this, students were also offered roles in corporate finance, investment banking, risk advisory, global investment research, retail banking and capital markets by companies including Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Axis Bank, HSBC, Nomura, ICICI and others. Students from operations vertical got offers from companies including Asian Paints, HCCB, Snapdeal, Maersk and L&T. Microsoft, eBay, Mindtree, TCS, Wipro and few others offers technology consulting and IT roles to students.
Prof AF Mathew, Chairperson, Placements at IIMK says, “Summer placements play a crucial role as that is the time when the students are able to validate the learning from first year by working on real time industry problems. This helps them either get a pre-placement offer or helps them in their final recruitment process as the companies tend to look out for students with internship experience that is aligned with the role they are offering.”
Students at IIMK received 72 pre-placement offers last year and all the offers were accepted. “Continuing with the upward trend, we are hopeful of a better number of PPOs this year compared to the last year,” Balooni adds.
