Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Commentary

6:31 PM IST Harshal Patel is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his super four-fer. He says that they have been trying in the last 4-5 games, and winning games from here on will be special. Adds that he figured out that it was hard to play straight batted shots, so he wanted to force them to play towards mid-wicket. Mentions that he tried to bowl length to Dhoni, but it was just one of those variations when what you try does not come off, but he is happy that it went to the fielder. Ends by saying that family is very important to him, but when he takes the field, he is switched on, and after the game, it is all about being a good father.
6:28 PM IST Right then, that is it from this crucial game where Sunrisers Hyderabad keep their hopes alive while Chennai Super Kings are all but out. Next up, the action moves to the City of Joy, Kolkata, where Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Punjab Kings in a high-stakes clash on 26th April, Saturday. That will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
6:18 PM IST MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings says they kept losing wickets and the pitch was slightly better in the first inning and the score that they got wasn't justified and they needed to bat better. Adds that in the second innings, the spinners found a bit more grip and turn but they eventually fell short of 15-20 runs. Says they have to score runs in the middle overs, especially against spinners and will be one key area they will want to improve. Concludes that in a tournament like this, if the majority of the players aren't doing well, it gets very hard to string performances and make changes.
6:18 PM IST Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their effort with the ball, although the real setback was not putting enough runs on the board. Khaleel Ahmed set the tone early with a decent opening spell, and Anshul Kamboj followed suit, but a few costly overs and too many extras hurt their chances. Noor Ahmad and Ravindra Jadeja tried to apply the brakes in the middle overs with some tidy bowling, but it just wasn’t enough to defend the modest total and secure those crucial two points.
6:17 PM IST Nitish Kumar Reddy is up for a quick chat. He says that they are proud to win this game and want to continue this momentum. Adds that it was about playing the normal game and put pressure on the fielders. Mentions that Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed bowled well, but they needed this win. Says that RCB won six out of six last year to make it to the playoffs, so they just have to believe and see what happens.
6:17 PM IST Earlier in the evening, CSK managed a below-par total despite a few quickfire cameos from Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, while Deepak Hooda chipped in with some big hits towards the end. For SRH, it was Harshal Patel who stole the show with a superb four-wicket haul. Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat backed him up well with two wickets apiece, while Kamindu Mendis and Mohammed Shami grabbed one each to round off a clinical bowling effort from the Sunrisers.
