Chandigarh: PU defers plan to allow ‘sticker-only’ entry to vehicles

PU vice-chancellor Renu Vig said that PU will be unable to implement this and get the stickers printed on time for the students. “We will deliberate on this system more and iron out any other issues. We plan to implement this at the start of the 2025-26 session.”

PU registrar YP Verma had issued a circular regarding this on April 4. And while he had sought details of all students who are day scholars and bring vehicles to the campus, these will be used later as per the authorities. (HT File)

Chandigarh: Court restrains student party from protesting outside V-C office at Panjab University

An interim order regarding this was uploaded on Wednesday, in which the court has also directed that as an ad-interim arrangement, valid till the next date of hearing, the defendants can only protest at the dharna site earmarked by PU near the dispensary

The petition was filed by Panjab University registrar YP Verma. Through their counsel, they had requested that the defendants be restrained from holding any dharna or demonstration within a radius of 500 metre from the boundary wall of the offices. (HT File)

Missing exams? PU won’t accept medical certificates from pvt doctors, hospitals

Only a medical certificate, with full medical history, issued by a government hospital or dispensary will be accepted from the upcoming session at Chandigarh’s Panjab University

As per officials, Panjab University, Chandigarh, had been trying to get on this portal for the last year and its services are now working for the university free of cost

QS World University rankings 2025: PU holds on to spot in 1,000-1,200 bracket

PU doing well in the rankings can be attributed to improved scores in most parameters of the rankings. In academic reputation, the varsity improved from 6.7 to 7.8, while the score for employer reputation also went up from 5.9 to 7.3. The faculty-student ratio and citations per faculty improved from 5.6 to 6.2 and 21 to 24.1 respectively. The international students ratio scored, meanwhile, dipped marginally from 1.8 to 1.7.

PU senator writes to chancellor over delay in senate elections schedule

Senator Inderpal Singh Sidhu in his letter explained the implication of not announcing the schedule as the term of the present senate ends on October 31, 2024. As per the PU academic calendar, the dates of issuing notice have to be declared 240 days before the date fixed for elections

Separate counter: PU’s cracking solution to egg vs vegetarian debate at hostel messes

The move comes after Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, submitted a memorandum to the PU dean students welfare, following an incident at Boys Hostel Number 2, where a student had found a piece of egg in a plate of vegetarian noodles

This is the first time that PU has officially addressed the issue. Earlier, the demand was for a separate mess for non-vegetarian food, but with not enough space and not many non-vegetarian options on offer, it has been decided to just make a separate counter and use a separate pan to cook eggs.
