2,145 FIRs lodged for poll code violations during UP elections

The model code is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission for the political parties, candidates, government and the party in power during the polls concerning speeches, announcements, election manifestos and general conduct.

Elections to the 403 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh were held in seven phases between February 10 and March 7. Votes will be counted on March 10.

Poll code relaxed in 4 districts of Andhra, EC allows Naidu to hold meetings

In a communication to the state government, the EC said the restrictions imposed under the model code of conduct would be lifted with regard to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam, “in order to facilitate speedy rescue, relief and restoration activities.”

The EC directions came following a letter from the chief minister on Wednesday requesting that the model code of conduct be relaxed in the state to enable him to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures in the areas likely to be hit by the cyclone.(AP PHOTO)

National Film Awards put off over poll code, to be declared after elections

The National Film Awards are declared in April every year, a statement by the information and broadcasting ministry said. In 2014, the government had broadly stuck to this schedule and presented the awards in early May, well before the conclusion on the election process.

UP: Despite poll code, 10 govt websites yet to remove pics of CM, ministers

Two days after the poll code came into force, at least 10 government departments are yet to remove pictures of chief minister Yogi Adityanath and his Cabinet colleagues from their websites.

EC committee seeks more time to submit report on poll code

The committee was announced in December after the Election Commission took cognisance of parties violating certain provisions. It also had the mandate to examine how media platforms could be regulated during the 48 hours before voting in a multiphase election.
