Over 8.5 lakh Indians gave up citizenship in past 7 years till Sept 30: Govt

Earlier, Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai had told the Parliament that 1,11,287 Indian nationals renounced their citizenship this year itself till September 20.

The central government recently informed the Parliament that 10,645 foreign nationals, mostly from Pakistan and Afghanistan, applied for Indian citizenship between 2016 and 2020.
