Two patients who died at private hospitals in Pune test positive for Zika

Following the deaths and confirmation of Zika infection in their samples, Dr Kalpana Baliwant, acting health chief of PMC, wrote to the director of National Institute of Virology (NIV) on July 22 requesting guidance about the cases

NIV unable to conduct whole genome sequencing as Zika virus samples not taken during peak viraemia

ICMR's NIV Pune unable to conduct Zika virus genome sequencing on PMC samples as taken post-peak viraemia, lacking viral load for sequencing.

NIV scientist to train Pune health staff to counter Zika threat 

As per officials, the NIV experts are likely to discuss the SOPs to prevent the Zika outbreak in the city. The containment and surveillance activities will be discussed with the officials.
