GMDA proposes 1% cess on property transfers to fund 845 crore SPR project

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has proposed imposing a 1% user charge in the form of duty on property transfers in sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) to fund the project. The SPR project has been delayed due to funding issues, but GMDA said that the entire tendering process has been completed and the high-powered committee chaired by the chief minister will allot the contract soon. The cost of the project is INR8.45bn ($115m) and different modes of funding will be used. The authority said that 37 developing sectors are along the SPR and an estimated INR3.25bn can be collected in three years.

Jams expected at Kherki Daula toll plaza after FASTag switch from Dec 1

Officials of Millennium City Expressway Private Limited (MCEPL), the highway concessionaire, said that the number of vehicles relying on cash payments was way high at Kherki Daula toll plaza and that it would be difficult to implement FASTags on all lanes but one, in view of heavy traffic.

As per the directions of the ministry of road transport and highways, all vehicles crossing the toll plaza will have to pay toll through FASTags, which refer to radio frequency identification (RFID) tags.(HT Photo)

12 trucks seized for overloading, speeding on Gurugram’s peripheral road

Police said the trucks are overloaded with construction material, which is generally ferried from the Aravallis to Faridabad and neighbouring areas. They were ferrying stones beyond the permissible limit, the police said.

At Kherki Daula, a job that takes its toll

On June 21, a female operator was allegedly slapped, punched and manhandled by a man after he refused to pay the toll. On the same day, a lane attendant had to be rushed to the hospital after a car tried to speed through the barrier when he tried to stop it.

According to the police, the incident was reported to them around 8am by the man’s wife, who works as domestic help, and had returned home after work.
