BJP marginalised apple growers: Minister

He said in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had talked about increasing the import duty on apples to 100%, but in contrast, it reduced it from 70% to 35%. After the import duty was reduced, apples were imported into the country from about 44 countries, the brunt of which is being borne by the orchardists financially.

Govt may not further hike import duty on non-essential items

The government, within a span of two weeks, has hiked import duty on a host of household items like refrigerators and air conditioners, and telecom and communications system products as it looked to cut import of non-essential items.
