DSEU revokes fee waiver for reserved categories; cites fund crunch

According to the university bulletin available on the website, the fee for Bachelor of optometry for first-year students has increased to ₹1.1 lakh per annum (including other annual charges) from ₹29,700 in 2023-2024

Chandigarh: Month after derecognition order, St Kabir yet to admit 23 EWS students

St Kabir Public School in India has not admitted 23 students from economically weaker sections, despite orders from the UT education department. The school was subjected to de-recognition proceedings after refusing to admit the students, and has moved to the courts for relief. The case is due to be heard on 13 July. If the students are admitted within a month of the May 10 order, the school will be considered for recognition beyond 31 March. The UT education department has also yet to take action against nine other schools that did not participate in EWS admissions.

Mhada lottery reserves low-income group flats for MPs, MLAs

MHADA reserves 75 flats for low-income groups and economically weaker sections, and three each for middle and high-income groups, for MPs and MLAs in Maharashtra's housing lottery, despite their salaries exceeding the income criterion. MHADA cites old rules for the reservation, but a committee has recommended the removal of the EWS category reservation for MPs and MLAs, which MHADA has accepted, but the final decision lies with the state government.
