2017 Panchkula violence: 10 acquitted in rioting, attempt to murder case

A local court on Saturday acquitted 10 persons of attempt to murder, rioting and violence that took place on August 25, 2017, following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a rape case. Additional sessions judge Sanjay Sandhir acquitted the 10 persons who were booked under different sections for above-mentioned charges in the FIR registered at the Sector-5 police station here.

15 kg heroin seized in Amritsar, 6 held

The counter-intelligence wing of Punjab Police on Friday arrested six drug peddlers and recovered 15kg heroin from their possession at Ghonewal village under Ramdas police station in the district. In a press release issued here, officials of the wing said that following a tip-off, a team of the counter-intelligence unit, Amritsar, set up a naka at Ghonewal T-point and arrested the six drug peddlers and recovered 15 packets of heroin (of 1 kg each) from their possession.

Man shot at allegedly for refusing to pool in money for road repair

A 32-year-old man was allegedly shot twice by two motorcycle-borne men, late on Wednesday night in Naharpur Rupa village, police said, adding that the shooting was seen as a fallout of a dispute over pooling money to repair a village road.

The victim, Deepak, a resident of Naharpur Rupa, was shot by the two suspects, who are also from the village, the police said, adding that they were yet to find any criminal background of the suspects, but were conducting raids to arrest them.(AFP)
