HC hands over Bar body chief’s charge to vice-president

The high court bench of chief justice Sheel Nagu and justice Anil Kshetarpal stayed the Bar Council of India order of September 2024, whereby it had intervened in Bar Council Of Punjab and Haryana decision to temporarily remove the president, Vikas Malik.

Vikas Malik was booked in a criminal case by Chandigarh Police on July 1 on the complaint of advocate Ranjit Singh, who had alleged that he was assaulted by a group, including Malik, at the Bar body office. (HT)

Gunshots ring out at Saket court in big security breach

Gunshots were fired at south Delhi?s Saket Court complex as a suspended lawyer in uniform opened fire at a woman over a financial dispute. The attacker was identified as Kamleshwar Kumar Singh, who was barred from practising law in 2022. This is the fourth incident of firing in court complexes in Delhi in under two years, highlighting security breaches and gaps in police arrangements. The incident also triggered a political tussle, with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party blaming the lieutenant governor for failing to manage law-and-order in the city.
