Harpreet Brar appointed addl judge of high court

The Centre on Friday notified appointment of senior advocate Harpreet Singh Brar as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court.

Brar, a former president of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, was among 12 lawyers whose names were recommended by high court collegium in March 2022.

While other appointments were made, Brar’s name was sent back by the law ministry for reconsideration.

However, his name was reiterated by the high court collegium on February 23 and subsequently cleared again by the Supreme Court collegium on March 22.

With this, the number of judges in the Punjab and Haryana high court would be 66 against the sanctioned strength of 85.
