BMC splits up its most populous ward to serve better; ₹20 cr to be spent on offices
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai is dividing the K-east ward into two separate wards, K-north and K-south, to better manage civic issues and development strategies. The K-east ward is currently the most populous in the city, with a population of 10 lakh. The split will bring the total number of administrative wards in the city to 26. The split is expected to benefit residents in areas such as Andheri east, Vile Parle east, and Jogeshwari east, who will have easier access to ward offices and services. The process of shifting departments to the new wards will take at least six months.

Mound of 40-foot-high earth dumped in Andheri
A construction firm in Andheri East, Mumbai, has been accused of flouting air pollution guidelines by dumping earth and sand rubble in an open area. The Watchdog Foundation, an NGO, has complained to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. The construction company is allegedly digging in the area for a project and dumping the unearthed sand nearby. The BMC issued guidelines on air pollution mitigation on 25 October and has been cracking down on violators.
