At India Couture Week 2018, Pallavi Jaikishan mixed retro and modern for the edgy bride
Designer Pallavi Jaikishan’s India Couture Week 2018 sarees, anarkalis, shararas and lehengas are not only stunning for a range of body types, but allow movement, so you can easily dance the night away. We’ve assembled the most flawless looks from the designer to get you inspired in one quick read.
Fashion designer Pallavi Jaikishan took us back in time with her eclectic and elegant collection, Nostalgia, on day two of India Couture Week 2018 at Taj Palace, New Delhi on Thursday. Jaikishan put a contemporary twist on traditional styles in her showcase at the five-day fashion extravaganza, presented by Hindustan Times and Sunil Sethi Design Alliance.

Jaikishan showcased designs similar to what she had created two decades ago, featuring old as well as new fabrics — silk, chiffon, georgette, organza and metallics (slinky, sensual, almost liquid-looking imported lamè) — and design sensibilities (ruffles, cape sleeves, belted cholis). She merged retro with modern, transforming the very notion of lamé from trashy to luxurious with pleated, audaciously sexy anarkalis, shararas, lehengas. Copper, gold, rose gold — we saw them all. As flashy as lamé may be, not only did it look gorgeous and serve up a dose of glitz, it made for some ethnic Indian occasion-wear.

Jaikishan incorporated metallic accents and fabrics cunningly enough throughout her collection in ensembles that looked striking, yet understated. Her designs were more ornate and divine than tacky and flashy. Whether you want to sparkle in head-to-toe metallics, show off a subtle sheen, or flirt with a glimmering pattern, these Pallavi Jaikishan designs from ICW 2018 have got you covered.

Sleek lamè skirts and shararas with glimmering decorative folds paired well with all-over floral embroidered kurtas and made a bold statement. The sarees had a softer look with iridescent and shiny organza and sheer fabrics that were playfully finished with a variety of tassels and fringes. Jaikishan closed the show with a shimmering cream lehenga with silvery floral embellishments that sparkled with light.

The models wore a statement making yet classic beauty look: They channelled Old Hollywood–inspired side-swept, wavy buns and bridal go-tos, deep red lips, winged black eyeliner and bold, thick brows.
