Delhi Budget 2023 LIVE: From traffic to garbage, 10 points

Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday presented ₹78,800-crore budget for financial year 2023-24 in the Assembly. “The theme of the Budget 2023 is clean, beautiful and modern Delhi”, he said while presenting the Budget after two days of standoff between the Centre and AAP.

The focus of the budget was on enhancing capital's infrastructure, sanitation, transportation facilities besides the usual focus on health and education. In 2022-23 the Delhi government had presented ₹75,800 crore budget.

Here are the ten points:

1. The government announced revenue expenditure of ₹56,983 crore and capital expenditure of ₹21,817 crore.
2. Delhi's Per Capita Income is expected to be ₹4,44,768 in 2022-23 as compared to ₹3,91,000 in 2021-22.
3. The AAP government announced to upgrade and beautify 1400 km of the entire (Public Works Department (PWD) road network.
4. The minister announced that 29 new flyovers are being constructed in the national capital. 1,600 e-buses including 100 feeder buses would be inducted by end of 2023.
5. Construction of 3 unique double-decker flyovers in collaboration with DMRC at Bhajanpura to Yamuna Vihar, Azadpur to Rani Jhansi intersections, and from Saket to Pul Prahladpur.
6. Construction of 3 world-class Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs), 2 multi-level bus depots, 2 modern bus terminals, and 9 new bus depots in Delhi.
7. Electrification of 57 existing bus depots of Delhi would be done.
8. Gehlot also mentioned to connect all colonies to sewer network and to increase capacities of sewage treatment plants to clean Yamuna with a 6-point action plan.
9. Delhi finance minister said the government was committed to solve the problem of the three garbage mounds in Delhi with MCD.
10. Local bodies will be given financial assistance of ₹8,241 crore in financial year 2023-24, the minister announced.
