Mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar: Farmers to stage dharnas in four states on Feb 21, says Tikait

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait announced that farmers will also stage dharnas in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand on February 21 to press their demands. Speaking to reporters after attending the mahapanchayat, Tikait said a resolution was passed during the meeting asking the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) to launch a tractor march to Delhi in the last week of February if the government does not accept farmers’ demands.

Addressing a huge gathering of farmers in the Mahapanchayat, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait made a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government and said, “ It is a battle to protect ‘nasal and fasal’ ( generation and crop) which has been captured by the corporates.”

Rural bandh more of a symbolic protest but many farmers shun work

BKU supporter farmers largely followed the bandh call and kept off their daily farming activities while many others continued their daily work. A group of protesting farmers forced a few sugarcane weighing centres to close down in Bijnor and also asked traders in Afzalgarh to close their shops .

The court didn’t issue any order against actress Sonakshi Sinha because the Allahabad high court has stayed any proceeding against her and the next hearing in the case will be on February 28.Actress Sonakshi Sinha, her manager Malvika Punjabi, Dhumil Thakkar, Adgar Sakariya and Abhishek Sinha were made accused in a case of cheating after Pramod Sharma, a resident of Katghar area in Moradabad, registered a case against them on February 22 in 2019 in Katghar police station of Moradabad.

17-yr-old rape victim ends life in Meerut

BKU’s district president in Muzaffarnagar, Yogesh Sharma said the compromise between the two families would give an impetus to farmer politics in the region. “ Bonding of these two forces will also bring their followers under the aegis of BKU which is a flagship organisation of farmers”, explained Sharma. The compromise would further elevate the stature and strengthen the grip of Naresh Tikait over Baliyan Khap which is one of the biggest khaps in the area with its members in 86 villages.
