Youth who saved four lives battling for survival

WHEN EVERY one was running for life, Javed, saved the lives of four children. The young man is now battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit of Sushila Jaswant Rai hospital. He suffered 80 per cent percent burn injuries. The chances of his survival are bleak.

A STREAM of VVIPs visited the city since Monday following the consumer fair which claimed over 100 lives. Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited the scene of the fire in Victoria Park here and the hospitals where those injured in the blaze have been admitted. Gandhi, who was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, enquired about the well being of those injured in the devastating fire. "We have been to the hospitals. We have seen those who were injured, some of them are very badly injured," the Congress President said.

Brand India fair in flames in Meerut, over 50 die

OVER 50 people were burnt to death and several others were injured in a huge fire that broke out at a trade fair on Monday. All three enclosures of the "Brand India Exhibition Show' -- in which reputed companies displayed consumer electronics products -- at Victoria Park were completely gutted. It is feared that the death toll could be much higher it was the last day of the fair and there was a big rush of visitors.

About hundred burnt alive in Meerut

ABOUT A hundred people were charred to death and over 100 injured in a major fire that broke out at the ?Brand India Exhibition? site in Meerut on Monday. Though the official death toll was put between 31 and 50, eyewitnesses said more than 300 persons had died in the fire. Today was the last day of the four-day show. All the three enclosures at the exhibition were completely gutted. It is suspected that the fire was caused by short circuit.
