Most schools have claimed that their land allotment letters do not have any clause of reservation for admission under EWS category, thus cannot fill up any seat under 15% land allotment scheme.

Fee regulatory panel for medical colleges in Punjab defunct for 6 years: Expert

This came after the city-based NEET trainer, Dr Arvind Goyal, wrote to the PMO once again seeking directions to regulate the fee structure in private colleges.

Chandigarh rights panel asks schools to form child-friendly committees

It has been stated that a child-friendly school committee should be set up to serve as a complaint redressal body. This committee shall consist of the principal, vice-principal along with members, including one male teacher, one female teacher, a school counsellor and two members of the school management committee (SMC).

Chandigarh schools oppose move to cap fee hike at 8%

The judgment had said there can be no fixing of a rigid fee structure by the government and each institute must have the freedom to fix its own fee structure as required and must generate surplus funds that must be used for the benefit of the students.

Chandigarh: 23% students fail in Class 9 exam despite grace marks

Of the total 14,607 government school students who had appeared for Class 9 exam this year, 3,420 have failed in the exams, the results of which were declared on Friday afternoon.

Class 12 exams: School gets notice for turning students away from exam

A week after 15 students of Class 12 were denied to take their first board exam due to irregularities in their admission process, UT’s education department issued a show-cause notice on Friday.

Audit flags irregularities: Panjab University leased kiosk for a song

The office of the principal director and audit has found irregularities in the lease of a kiosk awarded to an eatery on the Panjab University campus without following proper bidding process, causing a loss of Rs 5.78 lakh to the varsity exchequer.

The kiosk (shop number 12 at Student Centre) was allotted to Mamma Mia eatery, owned by Sanjeev Mehta. The audit team has demanded explanation from the authorities concerned as why proper procedure was not followed in this case.(HT File)

No salaries to pay: Panjab Varsity moves court against UGC

After failing to pay salaries to teachers for February, Panjab University (PU) on Thursday moved the Punjab and Haryana high court, seeking contempt proceedings against the University Grants Commission (UGC) for its failure to release pending grant worth Rs 30 crore. On January 19, the HC had ordered the UGC to release the grant within four weeks.

Chandigarh nursery admissions: EWS applicants may get time till March to fill forms

The UT education department is planning to extend the date of form submission for nursery schools for another two weeks. As per the plan, parents who come under economically weaker section (EWS) category will be able to submit applications of their wards till the second week of March, following which the draw of lot will be held around March 15.

Three-bin system to be implemented in Panjab University

To deal with disposal, collection and removal of waste in hostels and other areas on the Punjab University (PU) campus, especially at the students centre, PU has decided to launch a three-bin system under which three separate bins will be installed for organic, recyclable and general waste.
