Jet Airways offloads bags ‘due to heat’, gives stranded passengers Rs 1,000 each as compensation
Twenty-three baggages were offloaded in Jaipur. Passengers were told that due to excessive heat, some luggage was offloaded.
Passengers on Jet Airways’ 9W 2262 Jaipur to Chandigarh flight were stranded at the Chandigarh international airport for hours on Tuesday evening after the airline left their baggage behind. Twenty-three baggages were offloaded in Jaipur. Passengers were told that the plane’s temperature had increased, due to which part of the luggage was offloaded in Jaipur.

Huge drama was witnessed at the airport as the passengers made a beeline outside the Jet Airways counter, screaming, arguing and even pleading with the officials, asking for their baggage.
One of the elderly women, walking with a support of a stick was even cursing a Jet Airways official that same should happen to his wife.
Passengers with connecting flights from Chandigarh were the most inconvenienced.
A passenger Neeti Bhambri said, “When we reached the airport, we were told that our bags were not loaded onto the aircraft. We were not informed of this at any stage. After arriving at the airport, we waited for approximately two and half hours thinking that our luggage will come in another aircraft but nothing happened.”
“An official told us that he has no authority and he could not do anything. Official even asked us to bash him since he was helpless himself,” another passenger Rashmi claimed.
Another passenger Neeraj Lathi, who was on his business trip, said, “I had to head to Bathinda and Amritsar and that was the only bag I was carrying, which they offloaded in Jaipur. Now for three days, I will be wearing the same clothes. I am left with my phone, charger and a wallet. The authorities should have informed us and we would not have boarded the flight. This is a major goof-up on the part of the airline.”
After all the ruckus and drama at the airport, all passengers, whose luggage was offloaded at the Jaipur airport, were compensated with Rs 1,000 each.
Statement by a Jet Airways spokesperson: “Owing to a (weather-related) payload restriction, some baggage on Jet Airways flight 9W 2262 (Jaipur-Chandigarh) of May 9, 2017, was offloaded and accommodated on subsequent flights to (Chandigarh). The airline regrets the inconvenience caused to its guests and is making efforts to have the baggage delivered to respective guests.”
