MJF not to pull-out of Govt

In a desperate face-saving exercise, Madheshi Janadhikar Forum’s chairman Upendra Yadav on Thursday said that the party has no plans to pull out of the government.

MJF, a partner in the Maoist-led government in Nepal, is in a serious crisis, as its members have demanded to immediately call back its four ministers as they failed to perform.

“We will not wriggle out of the government and the differences within the party are being resolved,” Yadav, who is Nepal’s Foreign minister, said at Biratnagar. Education minister Renu Yadav has already tendered her resignation.

The MJF, which vows to fight for an autonomous state in Terai region is the fourth largest political party in Nepal and has 52 members in the 601-member house.

More than three-dozen MJF members of the Constituent Assembly submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Prachanda on Tuesday demanding to call back their ministers from the government.

The central committee meeting will decide on the education minister’s resignation, Yadav said, adding that he has not given up his party’s primary demand of creation of an autonomous state in the Terai region.

This is for the first time in Nepal’s political history, that members of any political party have demanded recall of its ministers.

The MJF lawmakers also submitted a memorandum to Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subhas Chandra Nemwang on Tuesday demanding removal of parliamentary party leader Bijay Kumar Gachchedhar and party chief whip Ram Janam Chaudhary from their posts.
