Morbe dam 91% full, water stock to last till June 2025

The current stock will suffice for 325 days, while another 600-700 mm rain will fill up the dam completely

In 2022, the dam’s catchment area received 3,559.40 mm rainfall, and the water stock had reached 188.088 mcm. In 2023, the dam overflowed on September 24, after the catchment area received 3,549 mm rainfall. This year’s rainfall stands at 2,879 mm (Hindustan Times)

Threat of drought looms large as water levels in Maha dams down by 20%

Maharashtra is facing a drought-like situation as the monsoon deficit widens due to a prolonged dry spell. Water levels in the state's dams are down 20% compared to last year, and 194 out of 358 tehsils are facing drought. The state agriculture minister has indicated that if the dry spell continues, the government will declare a drought on a district-wise basis. The lack of rainfall has also affected crop production, with decreases expected in pearl millet, sorghum, soybean, cotton, and groundnut.

Yamuna crosses danger level yet again, agencies stay on alert

The water level of the Yamuna river in Delhi has once again risen above the danger level due to localised showers and rain in the upper catchment areas. The river has been fluctuating around the danger level for several days but has not reached the unprecedented level it reached in July. Officials have warned flood-affected people not to return to their homes and have set up relief camps for over 15,000 displaced individuals. The government is maintaining vigilance and has created sandbag embankments to prevent future floods. A survey is also being conducted to identify those eligible for compensation.

NMMC to roll back water cuts as Morbe Dam rises to 83-meter mark

NMMC in June was contemplating major water cuts as the water level in Morbe dam had come down to 24% of its total capacity i.e., as per June 18 records, the dam level had reached 68.89mm, and the gross storage had scaled down to 47 million Cubic Meter (MCM)
