Court exonerates former Unitech promoters in bribery case

In a December 16 judgment, special judge Harish Kumar, cleared the Chandras, along with four others, of criminal conspiracy and relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, for paying a ₹2 lakh bribe to Neeraj Kumar, the then Station House Office (SHO) of Saket police station.

Both will continue to remain in jail, for their alleged roles in other cases.(HT File)

Delhi police to file FIR, probe allegations against Tihar jail officers

The Supreme Court directed Delhi Police commissioner Rakesh Asthana to investigate the case. Asthana submitted his inquiry report last week, based on which the top court on Wednesday ordered the suspension of jail officers, and registration of FIR against them.

Officials in the crime branch said the FIR is likely to be registered on Thursday after they formally receive a copy of the top court order.

Unitech founder, daughter-in-law in ED custody

Preeti Chandra is wife of Unitech promoter Sanjay Chandra, currently lodged in Mumbai jail, and she was taken into custody along with Ramesh Chandra, who is in his early 80s, under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

ED’s probe pertains to alleged diversion of over <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>2,000 crore to Cyprus and Cayman Islands by Sanjay Chandra and his brother Ajay Chandra.

Delhi top cop begins probe into Unitech promoters’ violation of prison rules

Officials privy to the matter also said that Rakesh Asthana visited the prison complex a few days ago for a spot visit to jail number 7, where the Chandra brothers were lodged until August 28 morning.

Unitech promoter brothers shifted from Tihar to Mumbai jails

The Supreme Court asked the Chandra brothers to be separated and shifted to Arthur Road and Taloja Central jails in Mumbai on the basis of an ED report.
