Monsoon in Himachal: Flash flood in Una’s Haroli amid yellow alert

A car was swept away in a flash flood in Himachal Pradesh, India, while several trucks were stuck on a state highway due to heavy rain. The driver of the car was rescued by local residents. The region has received heavy rainfall, leading to inundated roads and flooded houses in some villages. The monsoon has picked up pace again after a brief lull, and a yellow weather alert for heavy rain has been issued until July 8. Over the past week, the state has experienced a deficit rainfall of 38%.

The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor (from Eastern Peripheral Expressway Junction to Dehradun) is itself being built at a total cost of around Rs. 8,300 crore, and it is in line with the Prime Minister's vision to boost connectivity in the areas which were once considered far-flung.

Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor will reduce the travel time from Delhi to Dehradun from 6 hours to around 2.5 hours. It will have 7 major interchanges for connectivity to Haridwar, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Yamunanagar, Baghpat, Meerut, and Baraut. (ANI)

UP: PWD to get road safety audits conducted at design stage

The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to go for a third-party design-stage road safety audits of all the new or capacity augmentation projects costing over Rs 5 crore or longer than 5 km.

Over 5,000 killed in road mishaps in Haryana in 2017, says report

Union ministry of roads transport and highways reveals over 4,400 mishaps took place because of over-speeding,180 were caused by drunken driving, 432 due to driving on wrong side and 147 due to jumping traffic light.

Haryana records 14 deaths every day in road mishaps

As many as 5,120 people lost their lives in 11,258 road accidents that took place in Haryana in 2017, a slight increase from 2016 when state recorded 5,024 deaths in 11,234 accidents.

The data shows that a maximum of 1,256 casualties occurred in 2,817 hit-and-run accidents, highlighting public apathy towards the victims.(HT File)
