‘Violative of consumer rights’: Delhi HC on restaurants imposing service charge

The guidelines were issued in July 2022 for preventing unfair trade practices and violation of consumer rights concerning levying service charge.

The high court said that the imposition of a service charge in a mandatory manner is “violative of consumer rights and the collection of service charge in various names amounts to unfair trade practices.”(X/ishansharma7390)

Fadnavis announces probe into builder-underworld link in MOB case

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced a probe into the alleged nexus between builders, the Dawood gang, and Edelweiss Financial Services in relation to the funding of the gaming app Mahadev Online Book. Fadnavis has also called on Bollywood actors and cricket stars not to endorse online gaming and said that the state government will enact a law to take action against gambling platforms. Edelweiss has dismissed the allegations. The Enforcement Directorate has already registered a case and the Mumbai police have formed an SIT to probe any city links.

GST rate cut likely for small cars, part makers

The Centre is also considering giving some relief to other sectors, especially in the unorganized segment, but a tight fiscal position may not allow it to go for a liberal rate cut across industries, the officials said.

Cars, bikes and mopeds at present attract a peak GST rate of 28% with additional cess ranging from 1% to 22%, depending on the length, engine size and type of the vehicle.(HT image)
